Collection: Thermoboxes

A Neverdark Thermobox is the insulated steel enclosure that transforms a burner into a finished, installation-ready fireplace. It is what sets Neverdark apart from standard bioethanol housings — and it is the reason these fireplaces can go places others cannot.

Most bioethanol fire housings are un-insulated. That means they generate heat on the outside of the unit, which requires a safe clearance distance from any surrounding combustible materials — timber framing, MDF, shelving, or plasterboard. A Neverdark Thermobox is insulated to a standard that eliminates that restriction entirely. It can be built directly into combustible surrounds, installed flush inside a wooden media unit, and positioned immediately beneath a television without any heat management concerns.

There are two Thermobox families. The TSS, TLC, TRC, TTS, TRD, and TST models are designed for the Firetec and Automatic burners, covering single-sided, corner, three-sided, room divider, and see-through configurations. The Chalet-I Box and C2 series are made for the Chalet-I and Chalet-II, in standard and hidden installation formats. All Thermoboxes are made to order. Lead times are typically 6–8 weeks. Contact us to confirm which model suits your burner and installation.

Not sure which Thermobox you need? Start with your burner. If you have a Neverdark AUTOMATIC or FIRETEC, choose from the first range below. If you have a CHALET-I or CHALET-II, choose from the C2 series. Then select the configuration that matches your installation — the descriptions below explain exactly which faces are open on each model.

Thermoboxes for AUTOMATIC & FIRETEC

Available in standard and hidden installation formats

TSS

Single-Sided

One open face at the front. The most common configuration — suits alcoves, chimney breasts, and media wall recesses where the fire is viewed straight-on from one direction only.

TLC / TRC

Left Corner / Right Corner

Two open faces meeting at a corner — the front face and one short side. Designed for corner installations where the fire is visible from two adjoining directions. TLC opens to the left; TRC opens to the right.

TTS

Three-Sided

Three open faces — the front and both short ends. The fire is visible from the front and from either side. The back of the unit is enclosed. Suits island-style installations viewed from three directions.

TRD

Room Divider

Three open faces — both long sides (front and back) and one short end. One short end remains closed. The fire is visible from front, back, and one side, making it ideal as a partition between two spaces that also turns a corner.

TST

See-Through

Two open faces — both long sides only. Front and back are open; both short ends are closed. The flame passes straight through the unit and is visible from either side. The cleanest choice for a simple partition between two rooms.

C2 Thermoboxes for CHALET-I & CHALET-II

Available in standard installation format

C2-TSS

Single-Sided

One open face at the front. The standard configuration for wall and alcove installations — well suited to the CHALET-II’s deeper profile and 3D flame effect viewed straight-on.

C2-TLC / C2-TRC

Left Corner / Right Corner

Two open faces at a corner — front and one short side. C2-TLC opens to the left; C2-TRC opens to the right. The CHALET-II’s 3D flame reads particularly well from an angled corner position.

C2-TTS

Three-Sided

Three open faces — the front and both short ends. The CHALET-II’s 3D flame effect is visible from three directions simultaneously, making this particularly striking in open-plan spaces.

C2-TRD

Room Divider

Three open faces — both long sides and one short end. One short end remains closed. Suits open-plan layouts where the fire needs to be visible from front, back, and one side.

C2-TST

See-Through

Two open faces — both long sides only. Both short ends are closed. The CHALET-II’s 3D flame is visible from front and back, creating a striking through-view between two spaces.

CHALET-I Box

Compatible with Neverdark CHALET-I burner only

CHALET-I Box

Hidden or Frame Installation

Single-sided viewing, available in two installation formats. Hidden installation sits flush within the surround with no visible frame. Frame installation adds a finished border around the opening. Available in one size — 650 mm.

FAQs

These fireplaces are made to order — what does that actually involve?

Every Neverdark fireplace is built to your chosen size and specification, which means nothing is taken off a shelf. Once you've confirmed your model, dimensions, finish, and any optional extras, the order goes into production. Lead times are typically 6–8 weeks. Get in touch and we'll guide you through the choices from the start.

Do these fireplaces need a gas supply, chimney, or special electrical connection?

None of the above. Neverdark fireplaces run on bioethanol and produce a real flame with no smoke, no ash, and no combustion byproducts beyond a small amount of CO₂ and water vapour — the same as a candle, at a far greater scale. No flue, no chimney, no gas line, and no specialist electrical work is required. A standard 230V socket is needed for models with automatic refuelling and smart controls.

How does the automatic refuelling system work?

On Firetec and Automatic models, the fuel tank refills itself at the press of a button — you don't manually pour fuel into the burner. An external module handles the fuelling and control, and the system includes smart sensors that monitor operation continuously. The fireplace will not ignite if conditions are not safe, and it shuts down automatically if anything falls outside normal parameters.

Can these fireplaces be controlled from a phone or integrated with a smart home system?

Yes. Firetec and Automatic models can be operated via touchscreen, remote control, and mobile app — ignition, flame height, and shutdown all from your phone. Smart Home integration with systems such as Google Home, Amazon Alexa, and KNX is available as an optional extra. If smart home compatibility is important to your project, mention it when you get in touch and we'll confirm which models and integration options apply.

What finish options are available, and can the fireplace be made to match our interior?

Matte black is the standard finish across most of the range. The Firetec and Chalet models can also be specified in INOX (brushed stainless steel), light bronze, dark bronze, or any RAL colour in matte or gloss — giving you a finish that works with almost any interior palette. Finish options vary by model, so it's worth discussing your project with us before confirming an order.

Can we see the fireplaces in person before ordering?

Yes. The full Neverdark range can be viewed at our partner showroom in London, where technical and design support is also available. Viewing is by appointment — get in touch to arrange a visit.
