The Chalet-I Thermobox is the dedicated insulated enclosure for the Neverdark Chalet-I volumetric insert fireplace. It completes the installation — housing the burner and its three-dimensional wood-fire flame in a finished surround designed to be built into a fireplace niche, floor portal, or bespoke architectural opening.
Fully insulated to Neverdark's specification — installs directly into combustible surrounds with no heat clearance concerns. Available in hidden installation (fully flush, no frame) and frame installation (a visible border around the opening for a more traditional surround aesthetic).
Available in 650 mm standard size; custom sizes on request. Made to order, 6–8 weeks. Contact us to discuss your project.

The Chalet-I Thermobox is the dedicated insulated enclosure for the Neverdark Chalet-I volumetric insert fireplace. It provides the finished housing around the Chalet-I's three-dimensional wood-fire flame — the component that transforms the burner into a complete installation, whether built into a traditional fireplace niche, a bespoke floor portal, or a custom architectural opening.
Enclosing the Volumetric Flame
The Chalet-I's patented volumetric burner produces a three-dimensional flame that rises through a bed of ceramic logs and lava stones — a fundamentally different visual from a linear fire. The Thermobox is sized and shaped specifically to house this burner, framing the opening to present the wood-fire effect at its best. A long glass border is available as an optional extra, adding a glazed front to the opening. Reflection screen and flame decorations are available by model.
Insulation — Why It Matters
What sets every Neverdark Thermobox apart from standard bioethanol housings is the quality of its insulation. The steel enclosure is insulated to a level that eliminates the heat clearance distances that standard uninsulated boxes require. A Thermobox can be built directly into a timber-framed wall, integrated into MDF cabinetry, or positioned immediately beneath a television — situations where an uninsulated housing simply cannot be used safely. That engineering is reflected in the price, and it is what makes these installations genuinely flexible rather than just architecturally attractive.
Hidden and Frame Installation
The hidden variant sits fully flush inside the opening with no visible frame — the surrounding wall finish is uninterrupted around the flame. The frame variant adds a visible border around the opening, suited to installations where a defined surround is part of the design, such as a traditional fireplace niche or a bespoke floor portal with a finished edge.
Made to Order
The Chalet-I Thermobox is available in the standard 650 mm width. Custom sizes are available on request for non-standard openings. Lead times are typically 6–8 weeks. Contact us to confirm the right configuration for your project.
