The Victorian — Bioethanol Burner for Traditional Insert Grates

The Victorian is a bioethanol burner shaped specifically to fit into a traditional fireplace insert grate, bringing real flame back to a period fireplace without altering its character or requiring any structural work. Cast in a long, rounded form with a centred carrying handle, it sits naturally within the proportions of a Victorian or Edwardian hearth — purposeful rather than purely decorative, and built to a standard that matches the quality of the room it's designed for.

A flame shaped for the traditional hearth

The combustion zone runs along the centre of the burner, set within a 1.8-litre capacity tank. A flame limiter is included for when the burner is dressed with coal or logs, sitting inside the maximum fuel level indicator to keep the flame contained and the decoration safely clear of the combustion zone. Four levelling screws allow the burner to be adjusted so it sits perfectly flat within the grate, regardless of minor variations in the hearth base.

Designed to disappear into period surrounds

The Victorian's cast black finish and traditional grate silhouette are designed to read as part of the fireplace rather than an obvious insert — from a normal viewing distance, it sits within the opening as if it belongs there. The rounded ends and discreet handle keep the design quiet, letting the flame and the surround do the visual work.

Made to order, complete with everything needed to start

Each Victorian burner is made to order. It is supplied as a complete kit: the burner itself, a combustion zone cover, a long key for igniting and extinguishing the flame, a jug and funnel for fuelling, a lighting stick, four levelling screws, and the flame limiter. No specialist tools are required for installation — simply place the burner into the grate and adjust the levelling screws until it sits level.

Safety and ventilation

As with all bioethanol fires, the room should be adequately ventilated to maintain good air quality during use. A minimum clearance of 1 metre from any flammable or combustible material — including racks, shelving, and soft furnishings — should be maintained around the fireplace at all times. Full safety and usage guidance is provided in the instruction manual supplied with the product.
