The Neverdark Chalet-I is a volumetric bioethanol fireplace designed to sit inside an existing fireplace opening or to stand independently as a room feature — no chimney, no flue, no building work. Real flames rise through a bed of handmade ceramic logs and lava stones, producing a three-dimensional fire effect that a linear burner cannot replicate. The result looks and feels closer to a wood fire than any flat-flame fireplace.

Control is via touchscreen, mobile app, or remote, with optional Smart Home integration. The Chalet-I is available in two configurations: the IN variant, with an integrated refuelling module and a front-opening control panel; and the EX variant, which includes the ARS Autonomous Refuelling System — an external module that can be mounted separately and hidden from view, connected to the burner by a fuel line and data/power cable. With EX, the face of the fireplace is completely clean.

Finished in matte black as standard, with custom RAL colours available on request. Made to order in the standard 650 mm size, with custom lengths available. Lead time 6–8 weeks.

View full details

The Chalet-I is Neverdark's volumetric insert fireplace — a burner that goes where most built-in fires cannot. It is sized to fit a standard fireplace opening, but it is not a conventional insert. The three-dimensional flame it produces, rising through handmade ceramic logs and lava stones, is closer to the look of a real wood fire than anything a linear burner can offer. And because it runs on bioethanol, there is no chimney, no flue, and no structural work involved.

A Flame With Depth and Movement

The Chalet-I uses Neverdark's patented volumetric burner — a rectangular flame bed from which fires rise at multiple points simultaneously, catching and licking the ceramic logs in a way that produces genuine three-dimensional depth. Lava stones and glowing fibre fill the base of the bed. The combined effect, particularly in low light, is striking in a way that a single line of flame simply is not.

Burn times range from 3 hours at the highest flame setting up to 7.5 hours on the IN variant, and up to 11 hours on the EX variant with its larger integrated tank.

Two Fuelling Configurations

The Chalet-I is available in two variants that differ in how the burner is fuelled and controlled.

The IN variant has the refuelling module integrated within the body of the unit. A panel on the front face of the Chalet-I opens to give access to the controls and the filling point. This is the more compact option — everything is self-contained, and no external components are required.

The EX variant includes the ARS — Autonomous Refuelling System. The ARS is a separate external module that mounts away from the fireplace itself, connected by a fuel line and a combined data and power cable. It can be installed in an adjacent wall niche, inside a cupboard, or anywhere within range — entirely out of sight. Because all fuelling and refuelling is handled remotely, the face of the Chalet-I EX has no openings at all. The fireplace presents as a completely clean object, with nothing to interrupt the view of the flame.

Both variants are controlled via touchscreen, the Neverdark mobile app, and the included remote control, with optional Smart Home integration.

Freestanding or Installed

The Chalet-I IN is a freestanding burner as well as an insert. It can be placed inside an existing fireplace opening — a traditional chimney breast, a period fireplace niche, or a contemporary architectural recess — and it can equally be moved freely within a room. No fixing, no installation, no commitment to a position.

When a more permanent or architecturally finished installation is required, the Chalet-I can be paired with a dedicated Thermobox. The Thermobox is a fully insulated steel enclosure designed specifically for the Chalet-I — it can be built into combustible surrounds including timber framing and MDF without any heat clearance concerns, and is available in hidden installation (flush, no frame) or frame installation (a visible border around the opening). The Thermobox is a separate product.

Finish and Specification

The standard finish is matte black — a textured surface that sits well against both period and contemporary interiors. Custom RAL colours in matte are available on request, specified at the point of order.
