Cocoon Shell — Matte Black
The Cocoon Shell is the heart of the Cocoon Fires system — the distinctive oval globe that defines the fireplace's identity, whether hanging from a ceiling as the Aeris or resting on a pedestal base as the Cocoon Pedestal. The matte black shell is the boldest option in the range: a deep, non-reflective finish that absorbs the room's light rather than reflecting it, creating a strong, graphic presence that contrasts with the warm amber flame that burns within it. If the intention is to make the fireplace a definitive focal point, the matte black shell delivers that without equivocation.
The iconic Cocoon form in matte black
Designed by Federico Otero, the Cocoon shell is an oval stainless steel globe with a single circular opening at the base through which the flame is visible. The form is minimal and resolved — there are no visible seams, no handles, and no controls on the exterior. The matte black powder-coated finish is applied to a 14 kg stainless steel shell with a 60 cm diameter, giving the object a physical weight and surface quality that reads as premium from every angle. The flame visible through the opening catches and moves within the enclosed interior, creating a depth of fire effect unique to the Cocoon format.
Use with pedestal base or Aeris ceiling system
The shell is compatible with all Cocoon Fires base and suspension configurations — the full range of pedestal bases (polished steel, matte black, polished copper, polished brass, and white) and the Aeris ceiling mount system. The Cocoon 2.0 Burner is required and sold separately. If you are building a complete Cocoon installation from components, ensure the base or ceiling mount and burner are selected alongside this shell.
